Budding student challenged at St. Catherine’s

Family grateful for Adopt-a-Student support

Sofia’s teachers at St. Catherine of Siena School saw a pattern—the budding student was a quick learner and ahead of her classmates.

“Her teachers then started tailoring her assignments and pushing her academically,” said the 2nd-grader’s mother, Jessica Lopez. “Sofie is a great learner and smart. I really appreciated how they focused on her needs.”

Sofia attends the Denver Catholic school with her siblings, who receive tuition assistance through Seeds of Hope.

“I want to say, ‘thank you, thank you,’ because it’s a huge blessing for us to be able to provide our kids with a Catholic education,” Jessica said. “It’s a little family for them. It would be devastating if, as parents, we couldn’t provide it anymore. I’m very grateful that we can keep her going with the help of Seeds of Hope.”

Through the Adopt-a-Student program, Sofia is sponsored by donors who pay for her school’s tuition. Otherwise, the academically-challenging and faith-based education she and her husband desire for their four children wouldn’t be possible.

“When we first applied for Seeds of Hope assistance, we didn’t think we were eligible for it,” she said. “Thank God it worked out. It’s a huge help to us.”

Her husband worked in the fitness industry and recently started a career in real estate as their family grew. Jessica quit her dental assistant job to take care of the children. They always wanted to send their children to St. Catherine’s, where they married.

“It’s like our second home,” she said.

The couple is active in the parish’s Hispanic ministry, serve as lectors and Eucharistic ministers, and lead marriage-prep classes. They’re grateful for Seeds of Hope and all they’re doing to support their children.

“They are doing awesome,” Jessica shared. “They love their school. They are great students.”
